This illustration explores the idea of “home” through the lens of a reimagined Barbie Dreamhouse — a symbol often associated with the ideal or "perfect" home. As someone who has moved nearly ten times across Hong Kong and now lives abroad in the UK, I've often found myself questioning what home truly means.
In this illustration, I’ve created a layout that blends decorative elements and memories from the many spaces I’ve lived in — pulling textures, colours, and arrangements that once made me feel at home. The house is constructed like a collage of past homes, forming a visual “dream house” shaped by personal experience rather than perfection.
The small character in the piece is based on my childhood doll, which has stayed with me through every move. Though the rooms and locations have changed, this figure represents a thread of emotional continuity, holding memory, identity, and a quiet sense of belonging.
This work reflects how home, for me, is not fixed or physical, but fluid — built from fragments of past spaces, feelings, and things that remind me of who I am and where I’ve been.
